Postpartum Sealing Ceremony is a special process for women who have given birth. In Mexican and Russian traditions this practice is also called Postpartum Swaddling. It’s a sacred process of giving care and support to the woman, treating, healing and thanking her body, celebrating the birth and becoming aware of all the work that has been done (by the body and the soul). During the Sealing Ceremony, the woman gets deep support, a chance to talk about her birth experience and pregnancy and a chance to be really heard. There is a lot of deep work with the body that helps release the inner tension, there is a special warm tea and bath with healing herbs. The woman gets a deep oil massage and the final part of the ceremony is a Swaddling. It’s a closing act where the woman senses the seven main points on her body (seven Gates), that helps body gather itself, come back into natural boundaries. That process brings a deep feeling of Integrity, Renewal and Satisfaction. It’s appropriate to have a ceremony after a C-section (it’s better to wait at least three weeks after the birth). It’s also appropriate to have a ceremony after a birth that was hard and “totally untrue” when the woman cries and suffers and tries to understand “why it went so”. It’s good to have a ceremony 1—5—30 years after the birth experience. If you feel that you need it, then it means there has been no completion to that process. There is no statute of limitations for our hard feelings. And yes, Sealing Ceremony is not only good after a birth. It helps to complete any transitional event: divorce, death of a beloved one, a move, etc. Then the intention for that process is the completion of that particular situation. Usually, the ceremony is conducted 3—5 weeks after the birth, but can also be earlier or later depending on the circumstances.
